What certifications does Green Boom have?Green Boom has earned certifications from the USDA, EPA, TUV and the Nigerian Government. We have received certification from the USDA in the U.S. and TUV in Europe confirming our all-natural composition. These certifications help develop and expand biobased product markets and support the farms in our communities where we make our products. We have also received technical approvals, like EPA and NOSDRA, allowing the use of our sorbents in the critical application of oil spill cleanup. Contact us if there are certifications needed in your market. What is BioPreferred?Green Boom is proud to have earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product Certification for all of its hydrophobic, rapid, completely biodegradable, oil-only absorbents. The BioPreferred Program is a USDA-led initiative that helps develop and expand the biobased product market with a goal to increase the purchase and use of biobased products. In addition, the program includes a mandatory purchasing requirements for federal agencies and their contractors and a voluntary labeling initiative for biobased products. The program improves the industry through mandatory purchasing requirements for Federal Agencies and Federal contractors along with voluntary product certification and labeling. Having earned this distinction, Green Boom’s absorbents are now able to proudly display the USDA Certified Biobased Product label on all packaging. The label spotlights the biobased content as a percentage on each product, which is based on the ratio of a product’s non-fossil organic carbon (new organic carbon) to total organic carbon. The BioPreferred Program encourages economic development, creates new jobs and provides new markets for farm materials. The enhanced development, purchase and use of biobased products reduces our nation's reliance on petroleum, increases the use of renewable agricultural resources and helps reduce adverse environmental and health impacts. How does Green Boom loose Sorbent compare to peat moss? The capacity and weights are generally in line between products. The main difference is source of the materials. Peat moss is the dark brown fibrous product of sphagnum moss and other organic materials that decompose in peat bogs over thousands of years. It is therefore considered unrenewable and the process of recovering it is similar to mining, a carbon intensive and destructive process. Our materials are agricultural by-products collected from farmers throughout the year as the unusable leftovers from harvesting crops. It is renewable and non-destructive.

How do I use the Green Boom absorbents?Depending on the location or size of the spill, the amount of product needed and the procedures varies. Down below are some general guidelines. Reach out to us, info@greenboom.com, or your local authority for specific questions, 1. Use socks or booms at the forward edge of the spill to avoid the fluids to spread. 2. Soak up the spill with the pillow and/or mat. 3. Use the loose sorbent for any remains and sweep up immediately. 4. Put the used sorbents into a salvage drum and dispose according to local regulations or use the Green Boom microbes. 5. If using microbes, add microbes and water to the salvage drum. After 6-8 weeks the oil has degraded and the absorbents have started to break down. Put the compound of the salvage drum into a compost or non-hazard disposal according to local regulations.

What products can I use on land? The mats, loose sorbent, pillows and socks are all suitable to land and industry environments. The mats are excellent for smaller spills or to use at the end of a larger spill cleanup. With a large surface area and strong UV resistant cotton fabric it is made to fit in very tight places. It is also easy to reuse the mat and the spilled oil by simply squeezing out the liquid. It is completely hydrophobic and absorbs oil only, and is therefore also useful on water. With a high density, the loose sorbent absorbs all the remaining oil from a spill cleanup. With a high capacity for oil absorption, the sorbent coagulates after oil absorption for easy cleanup. It will not absorb as much as a drop of water. Pillows offer a large surface area that is tear-resistant, with high-capacity and has fast-wicking filler to quickly soak up oil. The compact design is great for catching persistent drips and leaks in small spaces or adding absorbency for spill response. The highly efficient socks wrap easily around leaky equipment and mold conveniently to uneven surfaces. Green Boom socks are a light-weight solution to manage a mess. They are completely hydrophobic and are easy to reuse.

What products can I use on water? The mats, loose sorbent sheen and booms are all suitable for water environments, both salt and freshwater. All the products are completely hydrophobic and therefore float on the surface for easy cleanup, even when saturated. The mats are excellent for smaller spills or to use at the end of a larger spill cleanup. With a large surface area and strong UV resistant cotton fabric it is effective in absorbing oil, even thin sheen. It is also easy to reuse the mat and the spilled oil by simply squeezing out the liquid. With a high density, the loose sorbent sheen absorbs all the remaining oil from a spill cleanup. With a high capacity for oil absorption, the sorbent coagulates after oil absorption for easy cleanup. Our awesome name-sake booms can easily be connected to each other or containment booms to encapsulate and absorb oil in a large surface area. Its tear-resistant, high capacity and fast-wicking filler quickly soaks up oil.

Does the Green Boom absorbents absorb water? All Green Boom products are Oil-Only and completely hydrophobic, this means that only absorb oil and no water. This makes them suitable for wet environments and makes them float on the surface. All types of oil are suitable for our absorbance, such as Motor oil, Hydraulic Fluid, Crude oil, Diesel, and Gasoline. In this video you can see how the products repel water, but absorb oil.
